The very first thing that Alex the Maltese/Cairn Terrier mix wants to make clear is that he's a love. In these photos, you're not aware of the striking golden and beige colors that run through his gorgeous non-shedding or very lightly shedding coat (difficult to tell at this point due to sad shelter hair) - with a commitment to periodic grooming, tender loving care and great nutrition, Alex's coat will be much less likely to shed and will be cottony soft with good health. Everything is new to Alex...his adorable little nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then, before you know it, Alex is on your lap or cuddling close to his favorite people. Alex is so happy beside his family because his relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Alex comes from a very tough and challenging shelter. As a result of unkind handling and harsh conditions, Alex is initially a bit shy. Once he's assured that all is well, he'll snuggle close and show his very engaging ways and sweet temperament. This 6 year old, 8 lb Terrier mix truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. Alex is such a great age and size...old enough to be past any puppyish behaviors (he's completely housetrained!) and young enough to have many, many active years ahead. He's also the perfect weight to take along on every adventure. If he gets tired, up he can go into a backpack to snuggle down and watch the action from above. We can envision Alex with an active retired couple or individual.. or a younger family who want an adorable and sweet dog as a family member and best companion. He would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his favorite people and canine friends. Being a Terrier, Alex loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He's such a great guy and would be thrilled to come along everywhere an awesome little dog is welcome. Playing at the park, visiting with friends or fine-tuning his urban skills shopping on Pearl Street would speak to the engaging nature (once comfortable) of this sweet little dog. Alex would be overjoyed to walk along neighborhood paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. Alex can have just a moment of insecurity from the turmoil that has been in his life...a guardian who is present and full of good intention can readily get this great guy past these feelings and let him know he is loved and will never be abandoned. Alex's basic nature is to be very joyful and positive.. and in just a moment, his silly and fun-loving personality takes over. While we've requested that Alex be neutered/microchipped prior to his arrival in Denver, we're not optimistic that this will occur. If it does not, Farfel's is happy to cover all charges for Alex if our Denver vet is used. Alex will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 3/10/18. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet guy with the dark, expressive eyes. If interested in this adorable ...and very fun and entertaining best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to [email protected] or fax to 303-443-7730. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Alex, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
