Makya is a friendly girl who is about 35lbs, loves to exercise and is working hard to relearn her manners. Her grin could win modeling contracts, but don't let it fool you. She's beauty AND brains all in one. Makya knows 'sit'--especially when treats are involved--and is learning 'off.' She can bark, but rarely does so far. She has also shown good house training to date--no accidents yet! Makya seems to understand that pawing her leash helps her chances for a walk and to vaguely remember other things like 'let's go home' means to turn back toward the house. She loves tennis balls and squeaker toys and will go into her crate for a break. (She may require certain incentives, of course. ;)) If she were competing in Olympic sports, I'd currently count on her to medal in sprints and high jump. She just needs the right coach to teach her to hone her talents! Update 3/1: Makya is doing great and nearly finished with her probiotics and preventative medications. She's learning new commands, cohabiting with another dog and is eating healthily. We love her energy, her curosity, and her warm heart. We hope we can help her find a great forever home! ----- Makya is an approximately four year-old beagle/terrier mix weighing about 35 pounds. This dog tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH's heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable.
