Our Wallabee is a hugable doofus, who loves everyone he meets. He recently found himself to be an unintentional guest of a large Animal Control facility, NYCACC, after spending some time wandering the busy city streets. Wallabee navigated all the pitfalls of stray life, only to find himself 'at risk' in the shelter isolation, suffering through the nasty cold he caught, courtesy of Shelter hospitality. Despite Wallabee's excellent behavior evaluations, he seem doomed, without possibility of adoption. We were pleased to offer this big cuddlebug a spot in our Rescue. Wallabee has transitioned beautifully into foster care, and it seems as if he has been here forever. He is a gentle, lovely dog, who warms to people quickly, and craves human affection. Wallabee would be a wonderful family dog with older kids, or he could complement the lifestyle of a moderately active single or couple. He seems to like other dogs, and is likely to get on well with dog savvy cats. Five years old, Wallabee is a beautiful boy, and has a unique look. He appears to be a mix of German Shepherd and Collie, with an exquisite and lush golden-colored coat. Wallabee's personality seems mostly Collie-like, large and gentle, weighing 80 pounds. He is a bit overweight, and we expect him to lose a few pounds, now that he's on a healthy diet. His ideal weight would be in the 65 to 70 pound range. We see a good deal of the German Shepherd intelligence in Wallabee, requiring a focussed, purpose-filled life to be content. He has already become an Obedience Superstar, and has easily grasped the basics of Canine Good Citizenship. He is easy to train, and will work for praise or treats. Obedience work is an ideal way for Wallabee to challenge mind and body, and this will go a long way to keeping him happy and balanced. Wallabee is a great candidate for Canine Good Citizenship. Wallabee is in excellent health, and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for Rabies and DHLPPC, (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, and coronaviris), and canine influenza. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
