About Amber

Australian Cattle Dog / Jack Russell
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

There's nothing quite like young pup energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter! Amber, at just 9 - 12 months old and just 16 lbs was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's New Mexico rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this wonderful dog so filled with love...they rescued Amber just in time. This sweet and engaging Cattle Dog mix, while initially shy until comfortable to her surroundings, is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. Amber is also incredibly beautiful...with the purest of white hair and chestnut markings that decorate her soft as cotton coat. Amber is part of a new breed mix that is drawing people's attention...and therefore opportunistically bred for quick sales. She is a sweet as can be and super-smart Australian Cattle Dog mixed with a Jack Russell Terrier...hoping for the smaller size and fun-loving nature of the the Cattle Dog mixed with the much smaller and happy go lucky Jack Russell Terrier. Amber is the perfect size to accompany her family on long hikes (Cattle Dogs are excellent hiking companions and love the togetherness!) or any fun and active adventures. She would be a natural at agility or flyball..having the enthusiasm and sense of fun to love the challenge. Amber is appropriately playful and fun-loving for her young age. She's also bright and so loving...clearly having no memory of her scary start. Amber absolutely loves her humans (as well as her canine foster brother) and is so excited to spend quality time together. Amber is an extremely loving pup (and is the perfect size to be a lap dog extraordinaire) or loves to cuddle up in the night for special belly rubs and kind words. Since Amber is just a young pup, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion - she will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through positive reinforcement group obedience classes (Farfel's Rescue is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in you area). It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with excellent behavior. We're open to Amber finding her forever home with an active retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a young, active and very smart dog. Amber is great with children as well but we would prefer to place her in a home with older kids that can participate in a gentle and consistent training regimen. Amber will be up to date on her vetting. We're hoping that she will be spayed when she arrives from New Mexico, however there are far too many dogs and not enough vets in this impoverished area of New Mexico. If she isn't fixed, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Amber to be spayed/microchipped at our Denver vet to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Amber will be arriving on transport in Denver in late February or early March (exact date will be updated as soon as information is available). If interested in this sweet and loving best friend and very loyal companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to [email protected] or fax to 303-443-7730. ** PLEASE NOTE** . If you're truly interested in adopting Amber, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
