Meet Buckie! This sweet snuggle bug warms up more quickly when you let him pick the pace but once he's comfortable you have a couch buddy for life. Buckie loves his toys and since he still is very much a puppy he loves to run in the yard and play. Buckie is an approx. 1 year old, neutered male, black and white terrier mix that has suffered trauma, abuse and neglect. He loves the company of his 'people.' He doesn't care for strangers, loud noises or anything in or near his head and face. He is particularly fearful of strangers and protective over 'his' family. He has likely never been around small children so a family with teenage + children or no children would be the best fit. He would also like a home without cats. They move fast and he does not understand that you can't play rough with them. We have learned that Buckie can do extremely well with other dogs of the same energy level who show NO INTEREST in his toys and food. He would do fine as an only pet or with other dogs of similar size who do not want to take his toys from him. He would also like a place in your home that is 'his' so if he is uncomfortable or needs space, he knows he can go relax with his toys. He does need a slow and controlled integration process into his new environment/family because of his fear and lack of confidence from past trauma but we can help facilitate that. Buckie is currently learning to overcome his fear of water. He doesn't enjoy bath time but he allows you to fully bathe him without an issue. He is a moderate energy dog that is extremely low maintenance. As long as he is nearby, he is happy just laying around and relaxing. He would benefit from a large fenced yard and another dog of equal size and temperament to continue to build his confidence and socialization. Buckie has SO MUCH love to give. He is playful and sweet with those he trusts not to hurt him (he can be timid with strangers but warms up as long as they GO SLOW with him). Once he knows what you expect from him, he aims to please and is ALWAYS happy. He even saves his treats sometimes and prefers to eat them when he is with you. He also knows commands (sit, lay down, paw, up, turn around) and is 100% housebroken. He crates well for 8+ hours if necessary during the work week but we prefer to not have him crated that long since he enjoys simply 'being' with his family. He would make larger strides with socialization and confidence if he is adopted by someone that works from home or is home more often than not and exposes him to new people and environments slowly. Please contact Rescue Angels for more information and an adoption application.
