About Sophie

SOPHIE HAS AN ADOPTER WAITING FOR HER WHEN SHE IS READY TO GO HOME. There are some humans that just don't deserve to walk the face of this earth - and animal abusers are right at the top of the list in our opinion. This one year old girl is Sophie. We are going to give you some background on how she came to be with us. On Wednesday night we got contacted from one of the Oklahoma networking groups with a very malnourished momma and her 13 - yes we said 13 - puppies. She could not stay at the shelter and if they didn't find someone to take her then she and the babies would be PTS. With permission of our board, the decision was made to send Brenda on a road trip and arrangements were made to get mom and babies out of the shelter and to a vet to check for any diseases and get a health certificate. Brenda did bring back some other animals on the trip - but her primary purpose was to get Sophie and her babies as quickly as possible to safety. Brenda loaded Sophie, and her babies, as well as 14 other dogs up on Friday morning in Oklahoma City and headed back to Clear Lake - arriving home last night. This momma was relegated to 'outside' once she made the cardinal mistake of getting pregnant - like she really had any say in the matter. At a year old shame on her owner's for not getting her spayed and putting her into this situation. Well she had her puppies - all 13 of them - and the POS owners stopped feeding her. She was left on her own to fend for herself and this whole crew of puppies. She survived by eating tree bark, nuts, whatever she could find and she gave everything she had to care for her babies. At 3 weeks old her POS owner took her and the puppies to a kill shelter because they didn't want to take responsibility for the situation THEY created. Thanks to Diane, a very loving and caring rescue person we work with very closely out of Oklahoma, we were contacted. Diane pulled her from the shelter and got her the basic medical care needed and drove her to Oklahoma City to meet Brenda for the transport. We are just sick that this beautiful baby has been put into this situation. We can assure everyone that we will do everything in our power to save her and the 13 babies (which amazingly enough are in fairly good shape). Mom is our primary concern as she is one of the worst cases of malnutrition we have had in a LONG LONG time. One look into Sophie's eyes and your heart will melt and you can just see the sadness that she bears. She should be having the time of her life as a one year old baby - instead she is just fighting to survive and help her babies live. Sophie is the most lovable baby you will find in our facility right now. She is grateful for every pet or hug she gets. She had lots of extra TLC this morning and it goes without saying she is getting plenty of food to help her and her babies survive. We will post updates as we work with this girl to bring her back to a healthy girl. We fell in love with you Sophie the minute we saw your picture sitting in a shelter totally dejected and we promise to give you everything we have to make life better in the future.
