Some lucky family is going to have the time of lives with our adorable puppy, Sheriff. He recently came to us from an overcrowded, chaotic animal control facility, where he spent some time, after Animal Control Officers found him roaming as a stray. He made fast friends with shelter workers, and earned the very best behavior evaluations, but unfortunately Sheriff caught the shelter kennel cough, and was booted out of the adoption program and onto the euthanasia list. Sheriff has that dopey puppy personality that will tickle the fancy of an active family, who are all on the same page about raising an older puppy. Sheriff is now 4 months old, and has that gangly, rangey look of young dog not yet in full command of his feet. He is a tall leggy dog, with an atheletic build. He is quite fast and loves to run. At 24 pounds, Sheriff is slightly underweight, and could easily to fill out to 50 - 60 pounds. Our shelter contacts describe Sheriff as a German Shepherd, with some Rottweiler DNA in the mix. Even though We think Sheriff will be a large, powerful dog, his nature is sweet and loving, making him the perfect family dog. Sheriff is very kid friendly and touchable. He craves human attention and would enjoy interacting with older children, and being part of a large family. Sheriff is at that tender young age when it's just about time to start the puppy kindergarten and basic obedience. He is past the teething stage, and has not proven himself to be overly destructive, but folks who take on a young puppy, must be prepared to puppy proof the premises and have realistic expectations of his limitations as far as house training and unsupervised time at home alone. Sheriff is extremely smart, and has begun to grasp the concepts of basic obedience training. He is a dog who could go the full route to Canine Good Citizenship certification, and become a well trained family member, who is welcomed everywhere. His temperament is outstanding and he is extremely friendly to everyone he meets. He has demonstrated no issues with other dogs. We think he may fit into a feline home, although a young pup would likely chase cats in play. Sheriff has decent house manners for a youngster, and is mostly house trained and nicely crate trained. Adopters must expect to finetune his potty routine, as he transitions to his new home. Sheriff is in excellent health, and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, and coronavirus). He will need his first 4dx test st 6 months old. He has been dewormed and microchipped. If you are interested in Sheriff, please write to [email protected] or call Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.
