Harley is a shelter rescue who has been in our home going on 2 years. She is generally very sweet but has a tendency to resource guard, even people. Recently this has caused her to nip at my 4 year old special needs daughter. She did not draw blood, but our fears are increasing. She appears to have a very wild instinct and loves to chase small wildlife, squirrels being her favorite. We invested in a very large fence when she came because of her tendency to run away and not come when called. It would take forever to catch her. She would need a large fenced yard with trees. She is both an indoor/outdoor dog but sleeps inside. Her coat is short so she cannot stay out during the cold for long. She is crate/house trained but sleeps on doggie bed. She lives with a small dog and does well with him but she will go after cats. Normally she has been real good with our children (we have 5) it's the age around 4 that she seems to struggle with. We don't know her background before the shelter but I imagine she was on her own for a long time. Her hunt instinct is very strong. We do not request the adoption fee for ourselves but would appreciate the family that adopts her to donate the money to a local shelter or Border Collie Rescue in Harley's name with written proof. We are not taking this lightly and wish for her to find the perfect home. She would not do well in an apartment or home with no fenced yard. As well as returning to the shelter, both would be cruel to her. She is used to running and chasing in a large yard daily.
