Meet Chapo. He is a 7-year-old German Shepherd Belgian Malinois mix who had been down on his luck. He had been living with a family, kept outside for the whole day and often overnight. He had to endure extreme weather fluctuations living in Apple Valley. He has calluses built up on his elbows and paws suggesting he was used to sleeping on concrete and other hard surfaces. When he first arrived he would look into every vehicle as if searching for his family. Apparently, the 7-year itch applies to dogs too. The story that we were told is the family drove him to the local high kill shelter and cast him off like a dirty sock. Not once did they look back or check on this boy. He was brought to our attention by a group of people who dedicate their time showcasing dogs who are not on anyone's radar. In Chapo's case, it was just age. This boy has the energy of a puppy. He is smart, energetic, and is now showing and giving affection for the first time in his life. He does seem interested in other dogs in a protective way so we have not placed him in any group situation. We were told that he had been around other dogs. At this point in time we are suggesting a family without any other pets. He loves to go on walks, play with the ball and run around the grassy park. He understands basic commands and is a super dog with a lot to give. He is a smart, obedient, affectionate and a very agile dog. He is people, kid, and selectively dog-friendly. He is healthy and sweet and is receiving and giving love and affection. When he first arrived he was a bit confused and did not want to connect. That has now changed. He has a beautiful honey, caramel medium length coat. Chapo loves meeting new people, warms up easily to new people and loves to be around people. He rides well in a car, is well mannered and has a great temperament.
