Gatsby (about 1.5 year old as of Jan 2018) is a neutered male black with a grey tail long-haired cat. Gatsby was trap neuter-returned as an older kitten that didn't seem tamable back in summer of 2016 but a few months later a woman found him and took him in to rescue him. He had fleas and his initial rescuer gave an 'all natural' over the counter flea remedy and Gatsby started having a terrible reaction. She reached out to us for help and two of our volunteers worked for hours washing the sticky, oily substance off of him as he was very near death. Thankfully unlike many cats who fall victim unregulated store bought flea remedies Gatsby managed to pull through, although his first few days indoors weren't exactly positive for him and he had trouble adjusting to life in a foster home that had a dog and two small kids. After a few weeks we moved him into a more quiet foster home and he started to come around. He is now okay with being picked up briefly and loves to be petted by the people he trusts, he just isn't very outgoing in new situations and is very sensitive to loud noises or sudden movements. We couldn't recommend him for a home with an excitable dog or young hyper kids but he does great with other cats and anyone who can be calm and patient with him.
