About PEPPER

PEPPER was saved from a shelter in Texas. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 21 September 2015 and weighs around 28 pounds. We have no idea what breed he is for sure, we just go off what he appears to look like to us, you would need to do the same. PEPPER is a great size boy and is very loving and affectionate when knows he can trust. He can be wary of people initially but give him chance to build up his confidence and learn to trust and he then turns into a love bug. This could take minutes, or it could take days, so PEPPER is going to need an extra special caring family that will give him time to adapt and put the horrors of his previous life behind him. PEPPER is great with other dogs, and he loves to run and chase or be chased, getting all of that built up energy released. He always seems to be smiling when he is running around. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. PEPPER when he is confident with his new family and home will need some training and we recommend that families spend time with him working on basic obedience and manners, this helps to set boundaries, expectations and allows both PEPPER and his humans to learn more about each others personality and body language. PEPPER is responsive and with consistency and guidance training should be easy and fun. PEPPER rides great in a car and would benefit going on adventures so he can explore lots of new places. He, as with adults is wary when around children, but he has never shown any kind of aggression. It is important that all children understand that he should be given his space and let him build trust and confidence, which I really do not think will take long at all. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them. PEPPER is a great size and would benefit from an active family who can take him on lots of walks and adventures and let him explore the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. This would not only give him the physical exercise that he needs, but also the mental stimulation. Then when everyone is home to cuddle up and relax feeling safe, secure and loved. With a little patience and lots of love, it won't take PEPPER long to realize that life can be good and full of love and affection with his new family in his new home. PEPPER is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
