About Charles

Adoption Fee: $75
Pit Bull
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Handsome Charles and his sister were turned in by their owner who was unable to continue to care for them. (Charles' sister has been adopted.) Charles is black/white and weighs about 77 pounds. He's a big boy, tall for a pitbull. His estimated date of birth is 10/7/12. He is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped. He takes a prescription medicine for hypothyroidism, which is relatively common and the medicine is inexpensive, about $20/month. Charles is a nice family dog who would be good with older kids (10+). He is used to living indoors and is crate trained, potty trained and well behaved in the house. All he wants is a family and home of his own to hang out with! He likes to play fetch and is good with the household adult cats. He gets overly excited when meeting new dogs, but gets along with most small dogs and large female dogs after he gets to know them. Proper introductions are needed when meeting a new dog, which takes time and includes both dogs on a leash; take them for a walk single file and slowly let them sniff each other while still walking; keep praising your dog and keep moving; if one dog poops or pees, let the other dog sniff it; watch for signs of play between the two dogs; take breaks and give your dog slow long strokes along length of his body. After you have been walking for 30 minutes if possible and they have had a chance to sniff each other repeatedly, move so that you are walking next to each other (walking together but dogs not next to each other). This teaches the dogs a healthy way to meet and deal with the stress of getting to know a new dog. Experienced dog owner who is a calm and assertive leader is recommended. When meeting Charles and if you have another dog, we will have a dog trainer present to help with proper introductions of the two dogs. Charles knows basic commands and is very loyal and a love bug with people he knows. He is cautious with people he doesn't know, which makes him a good protection dog. His size and wariness of strangers makes him a little intimidating looking and can keep strangers and unwanted guests away while providing a sense of security to your home. Charles is waiting for that second chance at a loving forever family and home. $75 adoption fee, cash only, which is to help reimburse for a portion of expenses of dog rescue and rehabilitation. Local adoptions only; within 75 mile radius because we deliver animal to its new home to do a home/yard check. If interested in Charles, please tell us a little about you, your family, your other pets, where you live, etc. Thank you. Our adoption process involves meeting the animal by appointment. We have the best interest of the animal in mind and our goal is to find a good, permanent home for each of our rescued animals. We have the right to decline an application if we feel it is not a good match/fit or suitable home. If you like the animal and we both feel it is a good match, an application and adoption contract is completed. A convenient day/time is arranged for us to deliver the animal to its new home to do a home/yard check (to make sure the home and yard is safe and secure). We will collect the adoption fee (cash only) when we deliver the animal to its new home. All our adoptions are on a trial basis because our goal is to have a successful adoption where the animal has a good permanent home and never ends up in a bad situation again. We ask that you give the animal a chance to adjust and settle in his new home and environment. Going to a new home with new people and a new environment is traumatic and stressful. It will take time for the animal to become comfortable around you and his/her new home. This should be a bonding period where you get to know the animal and connect with it, spend time with it and take things slow. He/she will need to get to know and trust you and learn the rules of the house and what is expected of him/her. This takes time, sometimes 2-3 weeks. During this time we will hold the adoption fee and if the adoption is not working out, we ask that you contact us and return the animal and we will refund your adoption fee.
