About Zhorbit

Adoption Fee: $200
Rat Terrier
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Zhorbit has been in foster care with New Rattitude for most of her 13 years due to anxieties and fears stemming from residual issues from her original home where, for the first three years of her life, she was neglected, not socialized or trained, and very likely abused. As a result, she is a fearful dog when she is out of her comfort zone, and she exhibits typical fear responses that she will never completely unlearn. When the people around her are sensitive to her stressors and triggers, Zhorbit is happy, relaxed, and obedient. She enjoys daily walks for exercise to keep her 15-lb. figure in good shape. Although she won't tolerate being picked up, she does enjoy snuggling up to her favorite human for quiet time. She is not a fan of cats, and while she tolerates some other small dogs, she would not do well in a multidog household and definitely would be happiest as an only dog. Zhorbit is house-trained and will bark to be let out. However, she has recently begun having occasional nighttime accidents due to the twice-a-day diuretic she's on due to a grade 1-2 heart murmur. She also takes daily medication to reduce her anxiety. The monthly cost for the two medications is about $75. Because of Zhorbit's special needs, potential adopters must live within driving distance of Lansing, Michigan, so they can have a preadoption meet-and-greet with Zhorbit and her foster parents. Due to Zhorbit's fear issues, she cannot be adopted to a family with children under the age of 10.
