Meet Karli !! This small and very adorable little lady came to us from a shelter. She was absolutely terrified. It doesn't seem like she has seen much kindness from humans until she arrived here. Despite that she is really opening up and become a super sweet dog. Karli is a approx 2 years old female Chihuahua mix. She weighs 8.5 pounds and is full grown. She will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines as part of her adoption. She is thankfully Heartworm negative and on preventatives. Karli has come a very long way in a short time. She has grown to love and trust her foster mom. She needs an adopter that is willing to put the work in to gain her trust. She wants to love so it's really just a matter of a person giving her space initially and going slow until she's comfortable. She needs to build that trust with each new person. Once you have that trust she is a sweet, loving, couch cuddling lap dog! She's also still nervous with noises outside or really anything new. She would benefit from socializing and confidence building in her new home. Once she trusts you she is all about cuddle time. She is a lap dog and loves to sit with you. She loves giving kisses and following you around. She's happy to stroll around the back yard with you but isn't very active. Once she's more confident she may be up for more adventures. Karli has done fine with other dogs but doesn't need another dog in the home. She's fine either way. We are not sure how she would do with cats. She's had no trouble sharing food or treats so far. Kids need to be at least 12 years old and behaved enough to understand not to push her boundaries while she's adjusting. If you have children and their friends come over you need to be responsible and make sure they don't push her boundaries. She may nip when cornered or afraid. Her most ideal home would be a quiet couple or a senior. We think she would adapt to a more active home over time but would easily blend into a calmer low key environment. Karli does good on car rides and is fairly quiet in the home. She's great with crate training and uses it as her safe space. She's new to leash training and does okay but can easily get scared of sounds and new things. She's still learning outdoor potty training currently but seems to be pad trained as well. With her initial fear level for a few days it would be best to use pads until she trusts you enough to go outside with you. Her new owner will need to be very patient with her while she learns and adjusts. Once she does you'll be rewarded with a sweet, loving and beautiful companion. Located in Hampton VA.
