Courtesy Posting: TEHACHAPI, CA (KERN COUNTY IN CENTRAL CAL)- BEAUTIFUL 1 YR, 43 lb SPAYED FEMALE CHOW 'MADDIE' IN NEED OF A LOVING, RESPONSIBLE HOME or FOSTER AND RESCUE ASAP W/ BREED EXPERIENCE/PRIOR OWNERSHIP- CAT FRIENDLY, OK with OTHER DOGS Please help us find a loving, chow savvy home for young Maddie who was born 8/8/24. Her owner explained, 'Maddie has been with me since she was 8 weeks old and has always gotten along with my other dogs. We have an older (4.5) year old English Springer that has EPI. The older he gets the less tolerant he is becoming with Maddie's wanting to play rough. Lately they are getting into fights that the Springer is initiating. I am fearful one will get hurt' so the owner has decided to rehome her to a loving and qualified home. 'Maddie loves cats, has lived with small dogs and one larger dog. She is shy with strangers but does warm up with time and patience. She has not been around children. Maddie is your typical chow attitude. She is shy, she will hide under the couch if company comes over. She loves car rides if she can hang her head out the window. She walks great on a leash with a harness, but she doesn't like to get too too far from her home. She does have a very sensitive stomach so we feed her special food. Prescription diet from chewy.' The owner further explained Maddie has never bitten anyone, except when 4 months old, she nipped the tech while coming out of anesthesia following her spay and being handled roughly. She has gone to the vet several times without problems after this though. Maddie has lived mostly indoors, and with both male and female dogs who are all fixed. However, if you have another dog, a meet and greet is always recommended. The owner did mention she can resource guard food around other dogs so she must be fed separately, and is used to eating in her crate. She added that Maddie likes to play more rough with the larger dog in the home. She has never had any professional training, but would likely benefit from such, as well as further socialization. We have nice videos and many pictures of beautiful Maddie to share. She is already potty trained, spayed and current on her vaccinations. If you are breed savvy and are interested in meeting and adopting Maddie, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist with her placement. All adopters will be asked for a home check (which may be virtual), an application, a vet reference, proof of prior chows, and a signed adoption contract.
