About Apollo

Great Dane / Mastiff
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Apollo almost 3 yr old male Great Dane/Mastiff mix who is not neutered and needs vaccines. He was not labeled as aggressive when the MAGDRL evaluator was here he was so excited to see her and was trying to get as many belly rubs as he could from her. When he sees someone, he will give the loud bark with his tail wagging but as long as he knows you are not a threat and you're not scared of his big size then he will only try to knock you down with his lean so he can get the belly rubs. He is not professionally trained but does understand no barking, no and come here. I don't allow them to bark at nothing when they are in the yard or the house. He does have acne under his chin and will smell like Fritos at times so he gets a bath with Ketoconazole shampoo, and I will use wipes in the winter months. The vet recommended a grain free food for him but I honestly can't afford that food and the other dogs won't eat it so I would need to buy 2 different large bags of food. He loves chasing the rabbits in the yard, playing ball, playing in the sprinklers, laying around and snuggling with you or just laying on top of you. He is not great on the leash, so I do not walk him if he sees other dogs and they are barking at him while walking he will take this as threat and will try to go back at them. I am not strong enough to hold him when that happens so I don't take that chance. But he loves walks. He hates getting in the car and it takes 2 strong people to get him in the car. Once he is in the car, he is good he just lays there and gives you the old man grunt and sighs. I have tried treats of all kinds and even got a set of steps that he just wont go past the 2nd step on. Because of this I cant get him to the vet. In the home with his other housemates, they all get along very well and play with no issues. We do have cats, and he doesn't bother them at all but if it is a new home with cats he may try to test the waters with them. He is the same when you get past the loud bark and let him know you are his friend, he is a big love bug, and you will even get a smile out of his big mushy face. He is crate trained but doesn't like the sound of the metal clanging and will run away if he hears it but will go into the crate with no issues.
