Courtesy Posting: HELP!!! X URGENT- Riverside County Shelter, San Jacinto location, So Cal - ID #A1876935 'DUSK'- YOUNG PRETTY AND PETITE, DOG FRIENDLY FEMALE CHOW OR CHOW X AT GREAT RISK IN HIGH KILL SHELTER. AVAILABLE TO ADOPT, BUT CODED AS RESCUE NEEDS. SHELTER IS OVERFULL & EUTHANIZING even YOUNG ADOPTABLE DOGS & GIVES LITTLE TIME. WE ARE THEREFORE ALSO DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR A FOSTER & RESCUE TO SAVE HERS LIFE. RESCUES NEED FOSTERS TO HELP! LOVING AND RESPONSIBLE HOME, OR A FOSTER AND RESCUE needed FOR 'DUSK' as the shelter fondly named her. Ideally chow savvy or at least experienced and understanding of initially shy dogs. Found as a dumped stray, Dusk has been estimated to be only 3 years old and weighs 44 lbs. so she is perfectly sized, but understandably shy at first. She has been kenneled with several unrelated dogs she also gets along with, and has no negative medical notes at this time. Dusk can be seen in video loving pets from staff. The Shelter also told us, 'While in the yard treats were used to coax, and she would approach and kindly take treats before disengaging and sniffing around the yard without treats dog would not interact with handler in yard. Able to slowly pet her while in the yard but dog would stiffen with quick movements. Go slow and use caution - while in the yard dog constantly sniffed at gates while pacing the fence line. When I brought back to kennel, I was able to remove leash without issue. She appears to be doing well with multiple kennel mates.' However, she is also noted as being only able to be handled by some staff as is typical of the breed being shy. When we asked the shelter for clarification, they further stated, 'She did growl for the exam so it was limited and will not approach or interact if you don't have treats, you cannot make sudden movements around her.'which is not uncommon with the breed. As a result, Dusk is now coded as 'rescue needs', but can still be adopted. Please note with the shelter is so full, she may have little time to be adopted or rescued before she is added to their Red and euthanasia list without warning. Here is her listing link: https://24Petconnect.com/DetailsMain/RVSD3/A1876935 Therefore, if you are interested in adopting or meeting Dusk, please contact the shelter immediately by calling (951) 358-7387 and reference her applicable ID, and also use the listing link to express interest. If you are interested to foster, or foster to adopt, or if you need further help, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap as we are trying to find fosters we can then refer to a rescue group, given rescue groups usually need a foster and a place for a dog to go. There is also a chance she could be fostered through the shelter if you are local, or we could pair you with a rescue group to assist with this as a foster if further away, or needed. If you are a rescue group and interested in pulling this beauty, please email the shelter right away at: [email protected] and call (951) 358-7302.
