About Hondo

Hondo is a rather large but not properly socialized dog who longs to be the center of his humans universe . Sadly that is not the case here because of other animals we have and he is a potential danger to them . He does coexist with limited freedom with 5 other dogs , only one of which he can be peaceful with, two are too small to safely interact and another one he nearly killed during a fight . He doesn't chase cats inside the house but outside I think he would harm them if he caught them , he is not fond of children although seems ok with older kids , he has never bitten a child but he has been in a terrible dog fight and it is because we were physically incapable of stopping him because of his size and strength that we are seeking to rehome home we are too old to have a dog this strong . He does sometime resource guard food Toys and high value treats. He would be a wonderful guard dog to a remote property - he would be a great companion and guardian to someone who likes to hike and camp alone I'm sure he could easily defend you from any predator . He will chase calves and horses if allowed but has never harmed one- I think he wants to play . He is used to a shock collar and usually never have to use anything beyond the beep or vibrate to get his attention . I think he would do well with a GPS boundary collar and we have been looking into getting one for him . He sleeps in the laundry room because his tail is so big he will break side table height objects or clear a coffee table with out realizing it . He is very loving and affectionate and does love to chase balls and frisbees etc I did his DNA he is 60% American pitbull , 18% mastiff , 10% Neapolitan mastiff , 7% American staffordshire terrier , 3% Dogue de Bordeaux, 1% bull mastiff and 1% Boston terrier . He does require a muzzle at the veterinarians and during a nail clipping . He loves a hot bath . Fee amount is negotiable to approved adopter but will still go to Rescue Me
