About Loona

Adoption Fee: $150
Poodle / Lab
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

This sweet Labradoodle girl came into my life under heartbreaking circumstances. Her mother ingested poison when she was only four weeks old, and I took her in to give her a chance at life. As a puppy she was gentle, smart, and very easy to train. She grew up around people, children, other dogs, and even cats - always a well-loved part of our family. Unfortunately, over the years she's experienced several traumatic events with other dogs. She was attacked around age one, again around age two, and nearly attacked at age four. While she once tolerated grooming and handling calmly, in the past six months her behavior has declined. She's become more reactive, growling and resisting baths, and she recently went after a Chihuahua. She is no longer a dog I feel safe leaving around my young children, even though I believe deep down she loves us very much. She is still incredibly sweet and submissive in many situations, especially with men and with her longtime Border Collie companion (with whom she has never fought). She has also been kind with our cat and kittens I fostered. However, she reacts unpredictably to unfamiliar men, dogs, and when handled roughly or in ways children naturally might (bumping, pushing, pulling). For this reason, she cannot remain in a home with kids. She is spayed and has been part of our family for five years. I've tried many strategies and approaches to help her, but she needs more time, structure, and likely professional training than I can give her - and possibly even medical or behavioral evaluation, as something deeper may be going on. Because she is deeply loved, her future home is very important to me. She needs: 'ۢ A child-free household 'ۢ Someone with time, patience, and ideally resources for professional training 'ۢ A safe, calm environment where her triggers can be managed 'ۢ Lots of love and commitment, even if her challenges may never fully resolve I would love to stay in contact with her new home and receive updates or pictures over the years, just to know she's safe and loved. Letting her go is one of the hardest decisions I've ever made, but her safety and the safety of my children must come first. She deserves a chance to thrive in the right environment.
