About Barlow

Barlow's Biography Barlow is the sweetest boy with the biggest heart who just wants to be loved and be your best friend. He loves to cuddle on the couch, sleep in bed (if permitted), play fetch, tug-of-war, and go on long walks or to the dog beach (shade and water are key here). He tolerates baths and grooming (both at home and at a parlor) and is an overall good boy. Barlow would thrive in a home with a family that has older children (age 7+) or children who understand how to play gently with dogs. He does well with female dogs, cats of any gender (he's not aggressive toward them, though he will try to 'play'), and other animals. However, he does not do well with male dogs, as he was attacked by a male standard poodle a few years ago and has since been reactive to them. He would also do great as the only pet in the home, where he can soak up all the attention because he is a very loving and clingy boy. He'll happily follow you from room to room, learn your daily routine quickly, and wait patiently when you're away. He is housebroken and will lay calmly in his crate if needed. Barlow thrives with structure and routine but is adaptable to a loving, chaotic home as well. He knows basic commands such as sit, stay, and speak, and he follows directions well (although he has an adorable attitude when told 'no'). He walks well with or without a leash and won't run away if let outside for bathroom breaks. Recently, Barlow tested negative for parasites and heartworms. He was neutered in 2024, received the rabies vaccine at that time, and will come with proof of his veterinary care. He will need to be started on a new preventative for heartworms, fleas, and ticks (TriFexis or a similar option is recommended). Barlow is hypoallergenic, though his coat requires regular grooming. He sheds into the top layer of his coat, so he'll need monthly professional grooming or at-home care. A vacuum-suction grooming kit (like one from Amazon with multiple attachments) works wonderfully. He does best with whitening shampoo and gentle options such as Aloe or Oatmeal. For dental care, his teeth stay healthy with non-bleached bully bones. He's currently thriving on Taste of the Wild Southwest Canyon (Red Bag) food, though he has also done well with Origins in the past.
