About Charlie

Boxer
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Charlie's background: Charlie has been at the shelter for a little over a month this time. Charlie was returned due to behavior that is not specific. I handled him and gave him lots of treats and he took them as a puppy would. He did not bite my hand ever and learned quickly how to take the treat nicely and sit. Charlie's behavior I saw today: Charlie is very excited in the kennel. He had not been out of the kennel in multiple days. I had a shelter worked take him out of his kennel. He was difficult to leash due to energy and was jumpy coming out of the kennel. When we got outside of the kennels he pulled to go to the play yard. We kept him on the leash to try to get pictures. He would jump when I had a treat. When I showed him the back of my hand and told him to sit he quickly learned that he needed to sit and take the treat calmly and did this for the rest of the visit. Charlie ran around the play kennel, played with toys, and got in the water. He allowed me to pet him, get near his face, touch his paws and pet him. I was really impressed how fast he warmed up to me. After the initial meeting he did not jump on me. Because he got so comfortable with me the worker let me walk him on the golf course and put him back in his kennel. He was much easier to leash handle after getting his energy out and I had no issues. He was easy to unleash in the kennel with a treat telling him to sit. We did see other dogs as well and he interacted with them through the fence seeming interested. I believe he would do extremely well with another dog to get his energy out.
