About Koko

Koko is an extremely loyal, loving, and playful, four-year-old, 40-pound, male tan and white hound/lab-mix with warm brown eyes looking for a loving guardian. Koko was relinquished to Chicago Animal Care and Control when his human could no longer care for him. He lived in a home with another dog who was also turned in. This boy loves other dogs - big and small - and is submissive and sweet. He is housebroken and well-behaved in the home. He does have the voice of a hound, with a bark and a howl, so he may not do well in an apartment setting. He also is a bit of a counter surfer and loves to be part of the action in his house, always following his foster mom around. Koko is playful with other dogs but will also play independently throwing toys up in the air. Koko would do well with an active family. He would be fine with another dog, but if he has dog friends or goes to doggie daycare, he'd be happy. We did a brief test at Animal Control with cats, and he seemed fine, but it may be based on the dog-friendliness of the cats he's meeting. Koko is crate-trained and knows all his basic commands: sit, down and paw, walks well on leash, and rides nicely in the car. A little more training will help him bond with his new family. He's great with humans of all ages and sizes. He is thin but gaining, healthy, neutered, up-to-date on rabies, distemper, and bordetella vaccines, and microchipped.
