About Onyx

Onyx is goofy, lovable one-year-old Lab mix. He weighs about 60 pounds and has the heart of a gentle giant, with a whole lot of puppy energy still packed in! Toys are Onyx's love language! Whether it's fetch, tug-of-war, or a good game of keep-away, he's all in. He's especially hilarious when playing with other dogs. Though he's a big boy, he's incredibly submissive and will dramatically retreat from puppies half his size. Onyx didn't have the easiest start to life. He was born and kept in a basement, and when he was rescued at 5 months old, he weighed just 24 pounds, severely malnourished and shut off from the world. Despite this, he's a total lovebug and is friendly with everyone he meets-dogs and humans alike. He is still working on his leash manners and can be reactive on walks, so he'll need continued leash training and slow, positive exposure to the outside world. But with consistency and love, he'll keep making progress. Onyx is a joyful, loving boy who's eager to find a home where he can continue to grow, play, and soak up all the love he missed early on.
