We currently have two dogs, an 18-month-old, neutered male who is a Belgian Malinois/St. Bernard mix (Stormy) that weighs about 100 pounds, and a spayed female who is about 16 months old and is an Alsatian Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix (Freyja) who weighs about 65 pounds. Both dogs are rescues, we adopted Stormy from a rescue at seven weeks old and Freyja was adopted from a rescue in North Carolina at about 7 months old. Both dogs are current on all vaccinations, kennel and leash trained and housebroken. We have recently moved into an apartment after living in a free-standing house for over two years and neither dog is adapting well to the change. We have made the heartbreaking decision to rehome them because neither of them is happy nor thriving in this environment. Stormy is a very friendly and outgoing dog with a ton of energy. He loves to be outside and to run, neither of which he is able to do in the current situation as much as he would like. He gets along well with other dogs and people in general, but he is a rough and tumble boy. He is not aggressive or anything like that, he just does not seem to be aware of his size and thinks he is a lap dog. He is also familiar with cats, but he is somewhat reactive to them, not as prey, more that he wants to play and interact with them. He is loud, he likes to vocalize when he wants something or when he is excited or happy, all issues in an apartment environment. Once he calms down, he is responsive and knows some basic obedience, we have even been able to take him with us to places to dine outdoors in the past, and he loves dog parks and has attended dog day care when we lived in an area where it was available. Freyja is shy and reserved, but affectionate once she is comfortable with someone. She is very fearful of unknown men due to past abuse at the hand of a male owner, but once she gets to know someone, she is fine. She adores my husband and loves to cuddle and play. She is not as high energy as the male, but she does like to run when given the chance. She also likes to dig, so she does need to be monitored outside in a fenced environment. She seems to have strong protection and herding instinct and would love being a farm dog or livestock guardian. She is a bit fearful around children at first, but again once she is familiar with them, she is very gentle and affectionate. She is a fear barker, again an issue in an apartment. She likes to alert every time someone comes near the house, or she hears something which would be great in the country but not in the city. She is also used to cats and seems to enjoy interacting with them. They can be rehomed together or separately, and they both would come with an extra-large wire kennel, collar, leash, misc. toys and dog supplies, whatever dog food and treats we have on hand at the time of adoption and their vet records. We do not want to do this, but they are not happy, and our neighbors have rightfully started complaining about the noise. As two working adults we simply cannot monitor them 24/7 to correct the issues and we do not want them unhappy, nor do we want to lose our housing due to this. We just want them to go to safe and loving homes.
