About Ripley

Adoption Fee: 25
German Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

This is Ripley. A very pretty, mostly shepherd mix, girl who is reported to be about three years old. She has had puppies before, but she is spayed now. She has a white shock on her chest and the cutest little tips of white on her front toes. The short story is Ripley needs to live with someone who has other dogs that can teach her how to do dog things. She is extremely timid around people, shows no interest in the wild cats that live in the back yard but she will chase the squirrels and armadillos. We adopted her from the Jackson County Animal shelter and she didn't seem to have any reaction, good or bad, to the other dogs. There is only the wife and myself so I don't know how she would handle kids. She is house trained, isn't happy about being on leash but handles it OK. Now, the long story and why I am looking for help to get her a new home.... We got her from the Jackson County Animal shelter ten weeks ago and they said she had been abandoned at the facility, her and another dog were left together. She was very fearful and it was believed it was because of the abandonment and stress of being at the shelter. After spending time with her I think it is the other way around, I think she had problems and was abandoned because of those issues. She is incredibly reluctant to come in the house, and when inside she is very quick to indicate she wants to go back out. She want to see us, but not be near us. She runs for the door when we open it, but hen stands at the threshold and doesn't enter. She needs to live with someone who has other dogs that are roughly her size, the kinds of dogs that can teach Ripley how to be a dog herself. She is a beautiful dog, she just seems to have forgotten how to dog properly. I would love for you to meet her although the meeting might be you watching her run down the hall to hide in the bedroom, or running the other way to hide in the laundry room. We can figure it out as we go.
