About Duke

Hi there, my name is Duke. I'm a 1 year old neutered German Shepherd mix. I'm currently around 78 lbs, but I don't think I'm done growing yet so I will likely be a pretty big boy. I am, however, a pretty big baby and very sweet. Although very gentle for my size, sometimes I don't know my own strength so it's probably best if I'm in a home with kids that are a little bit older, unless they have experience with bigger doggies. I am very outgoing, VERY smart and a bit energetic at times. Love playing with all of my toys, tennis balls, tuggies, and ice cubes. But when it's couch time I'm good with that too. I like to think I'm a lap dog. I get along well with other dogs that match my size and strength. I have a small poodle that I try to play with and don't always know how to be gentle enough with her to play. Exercise of some sort will help us both be happier campers and would love to have a fenced yard to run around in. I take a little time to warm up to new people. I can be a little standoffish and barky at first but come around pretty quickly given a little patience. I would love a family willing to help me with my obedience so I can be the best that I can be. I know a few basic commands, like sit. But could use some help in that area. I am very food motivated and learn very quickly. Training for a boy my size is probably a good idea. I do great in the car and love my car rides, but need more guidance on how to walk well on a leash. I also love my walks, but right now tend to want to do my own thing. I could also use a little bit of help with my self-confidence. I do get a little spooked at loud noises and new sounds. I am potty trained and crate trained, but when home alone, I have run of the house, and most of the time just sleep while you're away. When you are home, know I will be wherever you are. I'm pretty nosy and love to know what's going on. I love to try and help too. I have been vet checked, neutered, micro chipped, heartworm tested negative, am up to date on routine shots, including rabies, dewormed and have been treated with flea & heartworm preventative. So I am ready to go to my forever loving home. My adoption fee is $495.
