About Ruby

Adoption Fee: $100
Rottweiler / Lab
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Hi! We adopted a dog (Ruby) on June 18th thru Brunswick County. She has since become reactive to our other dog. Ruby was very sick when we adopted her (she had severe pneumonia which we did not know when we adopted her) - we nursed her back to health with the help of our vet. A week or so after she was healthy again she became reactive to our other dog. We have been working with a trainer for several weeks but things are not resolving and we don't feel we are the best home for this dog. Our trainer has written a letter and we are hoping you may know someone who can help Ruby, as our trainer feels with the right situation, she has a lot of potential. The letter is attached. We love her so much but we know she could do better in a home without other dogs. Brunswick initially told me they won't take Ruby back because it's past 7 days but they reconsidered since I have been in touch throughout the time we have had her. If we bring her back, they will reevaluate her. If she is reactive with other dogs then they would have to put her down. There is a very good chance she will be reactive. If she isn't, they will allow her to be available again, but I was told they don't stipulate that she needs to be in a single dog home. This is concerning, as I don't want someone else to be in our position - and I want Ruby placed where she can stay, or at least with a foster, then her forever home. Our trainer feels that she has potential in a single dog home and she is offering her services at a discount for anyone who would foster or adopt her. Please let me know if you can help in any way to find someone who could take her so we don't have to bring her back to the shelter - we do not think euthanasia is necessary for her situation, and it could easily come to that if she is returned, but yet we cannot manage her care long term, as our home is very small and it's not suitable to keep them separated here much longer. We can care for Ruby thru about August 18th. Thank you so much for anything you can do to help Ruby find her home.
