Boy Dog is a Staffordshire mix. He has all the characteristics of a stubborn, handsome, bossy, snuggly, snorting bully. He loves the sound of a new bag of dog food, you coming home, and a chance to sit in your lap. He hates being cooped up for too long (he currently has some scratches from pushing against his kennel door). He does reasonably well on a leash although he came that way, we didn't train him - on it, we can walk him straight into a bath which he'd normally avoid. He knows sit, lay down, off, kennel, potty, not yours commands. He's food oriented and would probably learn tons more commands if we had the time and temperament to train him. He loves to sun bath, to hang out in the fenced yard, and going for car rides. He REALLY loves it if you'll let him hang out with you all day in you. He does well hanging in your office, doesn't really respond to voices or trying to participate in conference calls, just happy to chill and get the occasional coffee break cuddle. He doesn't like 'in your face dogs'. He' currently part of a pack of 4, his sister and two of her pups. They're his pack. He tolerates other dogs, but is decidedly alpha and has had to learn to be a pack dog based on street life. He is more than a bit pushy about getting access to all the love when there are other dogs around and exhibits jealous behavior but not aggressive behavior. We do not recommend him with kids based on how he interacts with other dogs. He has strong hunter instincts so - cats, turtles, snacks, rats, the occasional bird - none are safe. His person though... you'll get all the force and impact of his love for you - he likes to lean on you, and if you'd let him on your lap. He doesn't really play with toys much, but will gnaw a Benebone if it suits his mood - which could just be about antagonizing his pack mates. He does seem to respond faster to women than men, but there's no real gender pick. There are some men he just doesn't gel with - there's no consistency that we can find. Initially we thought he'd be a great dog for a veteran, but we didn't have a way to connect to those organizations as they seem to work directly with shelters. We were told to avoid posting about him on social media in case people tried to pick him up as a fighting dog. Eventually we tried that but we didn't have any luck. He's up to date on all his vaccinations and is microchipped. Ultimately we just want him to have a great life in a forever home. It's a heartbreaking decision, but our household is expanding to include our elders who come with birds and cats; unfortunately he doesn't love my dad which makes this especially hard. At this point, we have time, but probably within the next 6 months or so, the situation will escalate and we're trying to be proactive as we put a program in place.
