This is a tough decision I've wrestled with for a while. I have a 4-year-old American Akita. He's intact and up to date on vaccinations. He is a confident, aloof, and loyal dog who thrives when respected and understood. He is very much an Akita - proud, independent, and protective. He bonds deeply with his family but wary of strangers and does not tolerate disrespect to his boundaries. He needs: A home with NO small children and NO other pets A secure, fenced yard and someone who understands Akitas' temperament An experienced owner - this breed is not for beginners. Someone who can commit to proper handling, structure, and respect for his independent nature Important Notes: He is not dog-friendly and should not be allowed free interactions with other animals He does not have that Golden Retriever type personality - He is not heavily socialised and he will not interact well with just any excitable person or animal. That is why I suggest he is kept from small children and other dogs. He like many that are of his breed are proud and can get easily offended by those that have no respect for his space and boundaries. He needs to warm up to people . He resource guards only bones/meaty treats (not regular food in bowl), so his new owner must know how to handle that safely. Walks well on lead. Thrives as a one-household guardian and companion to those he trusts. Despite his challenges, He is loving, loyal, and incredibly rewarding to those who earn his respect. He loves long slow paced walks (especially in cool weather) , car rides, and being around his people in a calm environment (he has a hilarious and bouncy personality). Also if you feed him some chicken breast he will love you forever. This is not a rushed rehoming - I will only let him go to someone who truly understands Akitas and can offer him the stable, respectful, and caring home he deserves. Adoption Fee will be enough to cover his neutering and may be slightly different to what is listed (this is so I know adopter is serious (this is to prevent him being used as a backyard breeding dog)
