About Duke

Adoption Fee: $100
Treeing Walker Coonhound mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Duke is a 7-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who found himself at Oregon Coast Humane Society when his guardian was moving and could not take him. Duke is sweet with everyone he meets and enjoys his walks and time spent playing with puzzle toys and working for treats. He rides nicely in the car. Duke is declining in the shelter setting. A dog as smart and affiliative as Duke deserves to be in a home, not a shelter. We are looking for a foster or adopter for Duke at this time. When Duke sees a rabbit, squirrel, or other dog he begins baying like you'd expect from this breed. We are working to help him break his baying when it starts and instead work for some treats. Although he is difficult to redirect once he sees something worth yelling about, he shows now concerning behaviors. We believe Duke could live with children or adults and perhaps other dogs. His previous guardian said that Duke is good with other dogs, but because of his baying we have not attempted to introduce him to a dog. Two dogs have approached him during his time with us and he has been appropriate each time. If you're interested in Duke, please fill out an application online at www.oregoncoasthumanesociety.org or stop by the shelter to meet him. Duke is located in Florence, Oregon. Our shelter is open seven days a week from 10am until 5pm.
