About Griffin

Adoption Fee: $50
Australian Shepherd / Anatolian Shepherd
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Griffin is an amazing 6.5 year old neutered male who is truly a phenomenal dog. He came to us from an old friend of mine who was unsuccessful in rehoming him and were considering having to put him down before a major life change. I truly believe the issues shared with me were environmental as we have had hardly any issues with him since he has come to us back in September 2024. He loves walks, playing fetch, being pet, being brushed, and cuddled. He is completely house trained and crate trained. He is wicked smart and has had basic training with his former owner. He has picked up on our very basic commands since being with us, and while he could use a brush-up on his training, he will pick it up very quickly. Please keep in mind that Griffin has been through a lot, and it took him about 2.5 weeks to adjust and really start to shine with us. We actually had a home set up for him a month or so ago. Unfortunately once he was fully moved over, that was not a timeline they were willing to work through and ultimately changed their mind. We have applications in with adoption agencies to help with rehoming, but Griffin has not yet been accepted for any rehoming/foster program. In the interim, we are posting here on rescueme.org! He is brilliant, hilarious, and will absolutely steal your heart if you let him. He stole ours, but rehoming him for our friend has always been the intention. We will take him back if he is not a good fit for your home, and we will return the $50 fee. We are willing to travel within reason, but we will ask for an additional fee to cover the expenses with travel. Additional fees will not be returned if you change your mind and would like to return him to us. We will ask for vet references and information for serious homes. Please reach out and let us know if you are interested or have any additional questions! ANXIETY TRIGGERS: Airplanes, fireworks, thunderstorms. INTERACTIONS WITH PEOPLE: Griffin is cautious with new people in the home. When introduced appropriately, Griffin will smell them and typically relaxes within about 5 minutes. He is the same with children. The previous family shared that he would snap at their younger children, but when asked what preceded the behaviors, it was described that the kids were jumping on him, pulling his hair, and teasing him with treats/food. The kids he has met with us did not treat him that way and we never had any issues after they were introduced appropriately. He has had no issues with other people while on walks. INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER DOGS: He has done great with all the dogs that he has interacted with. We have a male heeler and a female heeler and he did wonderful with them. He has been with us much longer than expected though, and my male heeler has had some problem behaviors and has become aggressive toward Griffin. Griffin has never instigated anything with my male heeler, and in fact is rather submissive. For this reason and all the dog's safety, we do keep Griffin separate from the other dogs. INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER ANIMALS: We have not observed him with other animals. He does bark at neighborhood cats.
