He enjoys running back and forth in the backyard especially with the teenage grandsons or when individuals pass by the fence. While his size can be intimidating to some, especially the adolescent granddaughters he has never done anything to hurt any of them. With unfamiliar persons his first reaction is less sociable, somewhat anxious (hides behind owner's legs) and more protective until told to calm down. He exhibits his anxiety by barking at unfamiliar persons. He was calm and friendly with the previous older family dog, Bear (an 11 yr. old German Shepherd) who had to recently be put to sleep due to terminal illness. Baxter and the older dog have been /were with the owners since they were pups. Baxter has not had much socialization with other dogs however when other dogs are encountered on walks, occasionally his initial reaction is to bark. Baxter is a purebred German Shepherd for whom the owners received from the breeder the signed dog owner registration application. Unfortunately, the owners did not complete the American Kennel Club registration process. The process can still be completed by a new owner as a late application using the original document. The owners have the application, breeder's name, sire and dam names, birth dates, and ID numbers. Due to illness the owners are unable to continue to care for Baxter and with heavy hearts they are looking for a loving home for him.
