Courtesy Posting: URGENT AT DOWNEY, CA- SEAACA KILL SHELTER-ID #26-00560 -STUNNING PUREBRED CHOW FOUND AS A STRAY, MAY BE ON THE EUTH LIST WHEN HE COMES OFF HIS STRAY HOLD on 7/22, or soon thereafter! NEEDS LOVING, RESPONSIBLE HOME, OR FOSTER AND RESCUE ASAP, chow savvy requested Please help us find a loving, forever home (or foster and rescue) for this handsome boy who is estimated to be 3.5 years young and weighs approximately 61 lbs. We are calling him 'Teddy' and were alerted to him when he was seen being walked into the shelter by someone claiming to have found him. Teddy waited patiently with many people and other dogs around him in a long line, and we have video of this. So far, no owner has showed, but the shelter let us know he is already coughing so he may become Rescue only for medical, and added to the euth list when his stray hold is up on 7/22. We are unclear if Teddy will be made available to adopt, but the shelter is taking adoption holds now, if he passes on temperament and will be available to private homes. However, Seaaca makes most chows Rescue Only (meaning only a rescue group can save him), and puts them on a very short deadline. Most rescues need a solid foster to save. The shelter also let us know, he was 'growling when staff approaches, does not like to be touched, able to handle on leash, safety pole used to vaccinate' which is oftentimes typical chow behavior. Therefore, a chow savvy home or foster is requested. As of of 7/17/2025, ' a staff member was able to leash and pet', and that is when he was also reported to have been coughing, despite no coughing noted at intake. For direct adoption inquiries and adoption holds, please contact the shelter asap using his listing link: https://www.seaaca.org/adoptions/view-our-animals?breed=Chow+Chow&pet_id=26-00560 or by calling (562) 803-3301 and providing the his ID. If Teddy is not already neutered, this will be done for an adopter. However, please ALSO contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap who is trying to assist the shelter with his placement, particularly if you are interested in fostering or fostering to adopt- so we can try to pair you with a willing rescue to help. Rescues should call (562) 803-3301 x258 and email [email protected] We will post video, additional pictures and any updates will be posted on his Facebook post as we receive them: https://www.facebook.com/783968124/posts/10167492054323125/?mibextid=wwXIfr NOTE: to view contents of links you will need to copy and paste each one separately into your browser.
