About Merlin

I bought Merlin for my mom as a companion when he was about 5 months old. Neither of us anticipated for him to get as large as he did. Due to my elderly mother no longer being able to care for him, I took him in about a year ago. He is a good dog, but is pretty skittish around new people due to not being very socialized. He has never enjoyed being petted on the head so we pet his body instead. I'm not sure why this is. Maybe it has something to do with his previous owners before I got him for my mom. I'm not much of a dog person, and it's becoming hard to financially care for him. He loves food and eats about four cups of dry kibble a day. He has a skin issue. At first I thought it was fleas because we live in the country, but he's been on flea meds for nearly a year and he still scratches like crazy at times, which does cause his fur to become splotchy in certain areas. I have tried over the counter meds/sprays and sensitive/allergy shampoo, but it only seems to work for a short while and I fortunately I'm not financially able to get him in medication.
