About Dexter

Adoption Fee: $200
Cocker Spaniel
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Please note that because all our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance from Wilmington, DE for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in-person home visit. Dexter is a 13-year-old, 47-pound Cocker Spaniel who recently found himself in rescue after being surrendered by the only family he ever knew. Despite the heartbreak, Dexter has shown nothing but sweetness and resilience. Upon arrival, he received a full medical overhaul-several masses were removed, his skin infection was treated, his overgrown nails were trimmed, and his dry eye was addressed. Thanks to that care, Dexter is now feeling so much better and ready to start the next chapter of his life. Dexter is fully housebroken and loves slow walks and exploring the yard at his own pace. Though he's deaf, that doesn't stop him from enjoying life-he still loves playing with his squeaky toys and a good game of tug. He does take daily medications for arthritis (gabapentin and Cosequin) and uses eye drops for his dry eye, with monthly care costing around $125. He received an echo to check his heart and has only mild changes that require no medications at this time. He gets along well with other dogs and would do best in a home with older children. We're not sure how he feels about cats. Dexter is a total couch potato and prefers to be wherever his human is. He'll follow you around the house and loves to sleep nearby on his dog bed. Dexter may be in his golden years, but he has so much love left to give. He's looking for a quiet, loving home to enjoy the rest of his days surrounded by kindness, comfort, and companionship. If you're looking for a loyal, mellow best friend, Dexter might be the perfect addition to your family.
