About Benji

Adoption Fee: $200
Vizsla mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Benji is a Vizsler mix of around 12 years old. He has lived with us for the past 7 years. He enjoys days at the beach and lots of walks. He's been a wonderful companion to us over the years. We're very heartbroken that we have to rehome him, however he recently bit our toddler in the face and that is the reason he can no longer live with us. He's a very sweet dog but my toddler doesn't understand that Benji likes his own personal space and he often gets in Benji's face. He would do best as an adult only home with no children living at home. I think he would do better as the only dog in the home so that he can have the attention and love he needs. He does get along with most dogs but I think he would do better as the only dog within the home. I think he would do best with an active family as he likes lots of walks and loves to explore at the park or go on hikes. He also loves to sun bath, and would need a large fenced yard so he can run around and be kept safe. Because of his age, we would like someone that can offer him a home for the rest of his life. Although he's around 12 he's still very active and hasn't shown any well of slowing down yet. The previous owners used a shock collar on him with an invisible fence to keep him out of their flower beds and that's what I meant by abuse. When the previous owners adopted him he was found roaming the AZ desert with a large stick stuck in his leg. After his treatment he was taken to their local animal control where he was as adopted by my husband's late Grandmother. Benji is crate trained and knows basic commands. He will come with his crate, bed, food and toys. We are asking for an adoption fee because we really want him to go to a good home. This is our really our last chance to save his life. Most rescues will not take him because he's a senior and because of his bite history. We don't want to surrender him to an animal shelter because we believe it would cause him lots of additional stress and we love him too much to do that to him. If we cannot find a loving home for him soon then we may have no choice but to euthanize him. ٴ
