Courtesy Posting: CODE RED (ON SATURDAY'S EUTH LIST 7/12 FOR SPACE, 72 HR EUTHANASIA WARNING GIVEN 7/9)- NEEDS AN ADOPTER OR FOSTER AND RESCUE ASAP TO SAVE! BALDWIN PARK, CA (SO CAL) ID #A5704850- LOS ANGELES COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES- 3 yr young 'BRODY is ADOPTABLE, BUT LIKELY NEEDS RESCUE DUE TO URGENCY - RESCUES NEED A FOSTER TO SAVE! Found as a stray, he was originally named White Fang by the shelter due to his striking looks, a a chip was more recently found and his name is actually 'Brody' and he is only 3 years young Sadly, his owner never showed, and Brody seems to have been dumped. Even worse, Brody is now facing euthanasia in a very full shelter with a shelter sending a final warning on 7/9 of pending euthanasia in 72. While Brody has been listed as a chow mix, he is likely mislabeled, and clearly being overlooked. This stunning boy has beautiful blue eyes, a very long coat that was matted and recently shaved, and originally weighed 88 lbs, but is now only 75 lbs after being shaved. His tongue also appears to be totally pink, see picture. We therefore believe he is more likely a malamute husky mix, or maybe a wooly husky. Although we have begged the shelter for more time and a breed update, this has not been ignored so far. Brody is adoptable, but more likely needs rescue, and rescues need a foster and somewhere for him to go. Is there anyone who can help? Shelter notes from his behavior assessment state, 'White Fang aka (Brody) was at the front of the kennel when the runner arrived. He exhibited a neutral body posture, appearing stoic to the runner's presence. He allowed himself to be leashed with ease and exited the kennel on his own. White Fang walked ahead of the runner with a slight pull on the leash, bypassing his neighbors. Once inside the catch pen, he remained calm while the collar was placed around his neck. After entering the yard, he exchanged greetings with the other dogs, displaying a neutral body posture. After the introduction, he moved on to explore the environment. Eventually, White Fang began to sexually mount one of the dogs, but he was easily steered away with a verbal correction. Later, he repeated the same behavior, but this time he was unresponsive to corrections, requiring one of the handlers to guide him away by applying firm pressure on the leash. Once settled, he was allowed to resume roaming the yard. For the remainder of the session, White Fang coexisted with everyone around him, though he preferred to keep to himself. Before he was returned to his kennel, he was moved to the side yard to begin his handling assessment. White Fang could benefit from continued socialization in a yard with calm dogs, where he can interact at his own comfort level.' His handling assessment further states, 'White Fang was given alone time to decompress before the assessment. The handler was unable to fully conduct an evaluation as White Fang was extremely uncomfortable the entire time. He pulled away, attempting to evade the handler's hand. He exhibited a tense body posture, with a concerned gaze, ears pinned back, and a closed mouth. The session was concluded to prevent further stress on White Fang, and he was then returned to his kennel. White Fang will require an experienced owner due to a lack of socialization and handling sensitivity; therefore, it is very important to approach him slowly during interactions.' The shelter has also noted he walks well on a leash, would do best with calm dogs, and a volunteer told us he is a wonderful dog. Brody has no medical issues noted other than he did have some coughing and heavy mucus and was placed on antibiotics which seemed to have resolved the problems. As of 7/7, he was examined with no negative medical issues, noted as friendly.
