Courtesy Posting: CODE RED (ON TODAY'S EUTH LIST 7/10, BUT WE HAVE ASKED FOR MORE TIME, NEEDS AN ADOPTER OR FOSTER AND RESCUE ASAP TO SAVE) BAKERSFIELD, CA (CENTRAL CALIFORNIA)- KERN COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES - ID #A1227045 - 2 YR, 40 LB SWEET CHOW BOY 'MR CHOW' GIVES KISSES TO STAFF, GOOD W MALE KENNEL MATE ID #A1226033 WHO IS ALSO SICK, URGENT & ON PRE-EUTHANASIA LIST...EXPECTED TO BE ON EUTH LIST IN NEXT 24 HOURS AND NEEDS OUT ASAP - NEEDS GOOD HOME, FOSTER AND OR RESCUE TO SAVE HIS LIFE Help! The Kern shelter rescue department contacted us to let us know this young man was found on 7/2 and has been fondly named Mr. Chow. Estimated to be 2 years young, he weighs only 40 lbs and thus perfect size. He is sweet and gives kisses to kennel staff and allows petting under his chin in videos they provided. Mr Chow has done well with another male he has been kenneled with, described as a 9 month male puppy ID #A1226033 who is also sick, urgent and currently on the pre-euthanasia list, expected to be on euth list in next 24 hours. Mr Chow came down with a runny nose and URI, and while he is being given medicine, he is not eating well there, and has he vomited after being given doxy and cephalexin, perhaps on an empty stomach. Thus, he was placed on the euthanasia list for today, 7/10, and unlisted. We just called and begged for more time, and we have a slight reprieve of 48 hours to find placement. The shelter is totally full. We have his medical notes to share which show medicine was started 7/8. Other than his kennelmate he does well with, he has not been tested with other dogs due to being ill. The shelter let us know he has been reactive to other dogs passing by, possibly being defensive, protective of the other dog and or just not feeling well. He has been fine with his kennelmate who appears similar size. Mr Chow is adoptable and may also be fostered locally. However, more likely, he needs rescue, and rescue groups need fosters to save as they need a place for a dog to go. A rescue would then assist with medical. Mr Chow is currently unneutered but would be neutered after he is feeling better. He has been vaccinated. To contact the shelter directly to adopt, foster locally or IF you are a rescue group, please provide his ID and call the rescue department at 661-549-4355 and 661-301-4635, as well as email [email protected] to inquire and note his ID. The shelter's regular phone is (661) 868-7100 who may also be contacted for adoptions. This is his listing link: https://24Petconnect.com/DetailsMain/KERN/A1227045 To foster or foster to adopt for a willing rescue, or if you can help in some other way (pledging towards his medical, helping with transport), or just need more information or help, please contact [email protected] asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement before he is euthanized. Again, most rescues need a solid foster to save, and can assist with medical.
