Looking for adopters for this sweet, smart young dog found in early June in Willow Springs, IL. We have been fostering her while we tried to find her owners, and now while we try to find a new forever home for her. She is very sweet, playful, affectionate, and protective; however, although she is very calm, sweet, and affectionate with us, she gets reactive when we take her for walks and she sees other dogs. We are training her bit by bit to not get so excited, and she's taking well to bits of training. I can't imagine her in a shelter setting, given that other dogs give her anxiety, at least right now. We need to find her a loving home with a fenced-in yard and probably no other pets. She might get along with dogs and just hasn't had enough experience with them -- we don't know. She's housebroken, crate-trained, partly trained in terms of commands like 'Sit,' 'Come,' 'Stay,' 'Paw,' and 'Leave it.' She responds well to training, and we got her a rabies shot and checkup at the vet in late June. Very affectionate, looking to please us, and very protective: she is a Mountain Cur mix, largely used in the Appalachians and South for hunting. She is very protective of her people and wary of strangers. She needs lots of exercise and 'a job to do' -- she needs to have space, be active, and to develop trust and a new bond with whoever adopts her (who will be her new people to 'protect'). She's incredibly sweet and affectionate, but she is a guard dog by breed. It makes a world of difference understanding the dog if you know the breed. Do you have room in your life and home for this sweet, protective girl who could have been killed by now (hit by a car, picked up by Animal Control and euthanized, picked up for dog-fighting)? She was terrified when we found her, but warmed up quickly, and she deserves this chance for a safe, loving FOREVER home -- humans have failed her so far. Adoption fee will go to a local rescue who tried to help us. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/17PZ5E7NXF/
