About Bernie

Meet Bernie! Bernie is a sweet and sensitive 3-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog/Australian Shepherd mix who is looking for a fresh start. She was originally raised with her littermate but, after working with a professional trainer, it became clear that she would thrive best as an only dog. Bernie recently completed a board and train program where she learned basic obedience, gained confidence around people and other dogs, and began developing her own sense of independence. Since returning, Bernie has been living with a foster family that includes another dog, a cat, and two young children-and she's thriving! She's blossoming into a social, eager-to-learn dog, but still approaches the world like a shy puppy discovering things for the first time. She'll do best in a patient, committed home that will continue her training and help her grow at her own pace. Bernie also has Addison's disease, which is easily managed with medication given at breakfast and dinner. She's food motivated and takes her pills like a champ when they're added to her meals. To support her transition, her trainers are offering a few complimentary lessons to her adopter. If you're looking for a gentle, loyal dog to grow and learn alongside, Bernie may be the perfect fit.
