About Riker

Looking for a personal trainer, emotional support mammoth, and full-time entertainer? Meet Riker, a 2-year-old Rottweiler who weighs in at a solid 102 pounds and carries himself with the grace of a bowling ball on a trampoline. This 2-year-old Rottweiler is a Cedar Rapids native, weighing in at a lean, not-so-mean 102 pounds of pure, unfiltered exuberance. Riker came to us after his previous owners moved and couldn't take him along. With no kennels available at the shelter, we sprinted (okay, maybe waddled with urgency) to scoop up this majestic goofball and give him a soft place to land. If we had to describe Riker in one word, it would be exuberant. This guy is a one-dog celebration. He is bouncy, joyful, and deeply committed to living life at full throttle. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body- just a whole lot of enthusiasm and approximately zero awareness that he's the size of a small pony. Riker LOVES people and is always ready to play. He chases balls like it's his job (though he's more 'sprinter' than 'retriever'), and he's never met a person he didn't greet with a full-body wiggle. He is incredibly social and loves people. As for other dogs, we haven't let him have full-on playdates yet because, well�'�| he's enormous, and we're still working on his 'gentle giant' skills. But he play bows to the other dogs in his foster home and even tried to make friends with a concrete dog statue. We think he'd like dog friends, but until we find the canine equivalent of a rugby player, we're keeping things chill. Leash walking? Riker's version is more 'you hang on while he tows you to Narnia.' We're working on it. Slowly. From a safe distance.
