About Buddy

Adoption Fee: $50
Great Pyrenees mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

This sweet GP mix (vet thinks with Collie, Lab or Shepherd) was dumped at the local dog park back in March of this year at 4 months old and underweight at 35#. All the local shelters and rescues were full so I brought him home until we could get him fully vaccinated with all available shots not just the minimum), socialized, and ready for adoption. Buddy is now 7 months old and he is housebroken, crate-trained (goes in without any fuss when I am away from home for more than a couple hours and at night) and is about 70#. He gets along great with other dogs though with big dogs, he needs to know they are safe for his person and him (usually just go up to the new dog and pet them while he sniffs them and then he is fine). He seems to really love huskies but will play gently with smaller dogs as well as wrestle with the big dogs if that is how they play. I also have two cats that he gets along with as well. He is absolutely great with kids, even really little ones as I have seen him go up to kids as young as 3 years old and sit next to them wagging his tail while he licks their hand and arm but stays away from faces. He is super gentle taking treats though sometimes he may be a little eager and a reminder to be gentle and he will mind his manners. He is very gentle on a lead (wish my dog would learn that!) His only bad habit is that he tends to counter surf - any unattended food gets him every time. He can sometimes be hesitant around new people at the park, but treats are the way to his heart and letting him come to you. Hats and sunglasses can sometimes make him bark until he realizes they are not a danger. I really want this sweet boy to find his fur ever home. The person who dumped him left a note and we were able to find out his back story. He was bought from a FB backyard breeder by a woman with 3 kids. Turns out the kids were allergic to the dog but she could not get anyone to take the dog and as I mentioned, all the shelters and rescues were full, so she was going to just leave him on the streets when another person stepped in and took him, though she lived in an apartment and he was crated 10 hours a day while she was at work. She also could not afford his vet care and brought him to the park hoping someone would keep him. I cannot keep him myself as I already have too many animals, but I have paid to get him fully vaccinated and have trained him so that he will be a good addition to a family, especially one with kids. He will come with the large bed that was donated for him along with whatever dog food I have left over for him. I have all his shot records as well I can turn over. I have taken him to social outings where there are lots of noise and distractions and he is super chill and people have even commented on how for such a young dog, how calm he is. Everyone loves his personality and if someone lives in the Akron area, his friends would love to have him come visit with them at the BARC PARK. I am happy to do meet and greets there and or at my home until he is comfortable with his new family. He really deserves to be loved. Oh, and he loves to play in water - he does what I call the alligator chomp around the edge of the kiddie pool at the dog park. Please open your heart for this gentle giant who had a really rough start.
