About 'BIBBI'

Courtesy Posting: CODE RED- EUTH LISTED CHOW GIRL - LANCASTER, CA (SO CAL) - ID #A5707622- 'BIBBI' - LA COUNTY SHELTER/LANCASTER - APPROX 40 LB, 3-5 YR old NEGLECTED FEMALE CHOW - IN URGENT NEED OF CHOW SAVVY FOSTER AND RESCUE OR THE POOR GIRL WILL BE EUTHANIZED We are in urgent need of finding a savvy forever home and rescue for this adorable, but very neglected female chow or chow mix who was surrendered after an alleged bite while feeding her. Any injury is unknown as the owner did not care enough to fill out a surrender form. It is also clear they did not care about treating her well given her very unkept coat. Bibbi was then locked up in a bite quarantine for 10- days and the shelter just let her out. Despite how scary and stressful this must have been, the shelter just observed in her in the yard where she exhibited friendly behavior, but she was shy at first, as is typical of the breed. We have nice video. The shelter notes state, 'On approach, was vocal and started to back away when I opened the kennel door. Pushed herself into the corner and avoided/dodged the leash. Able to leash and walk out without issue. Brought to the yard, allowed her to explore. She would come up and seek engagement when I knelt down (tail was high and stiff) able to pet/touch and handle without issue. Performed handling 'exam' without issue. Brought her to the side and introduced a social male to the yard. She was loose and then unprovoked tried to pin him, responsive to tools. Moved the other dog away. She still sought engagement with me, did some play bows and zoomies. Re leashed and brought back to her kennel. Performed food/resource guarding assessment-fail. Ok for rescue or AP with bite disclosure and KHOA for food/resource guarding. She is therefore recommended to a home with no children, and other dogs is an unknown. She would likely benefit by some training for resource guarding.' Bibbi is an already full shelter with the 4th of July weekend ahead. She was already on today's euthanasia list but we thankfully have been given a slight extension of time and must have her exit by 7/7 at latest. As she is Rescue only, this means she cannot be adopted from the shelter, and must be pulled by a rescue group only, yet most rescues need fosters (or foster to adopt) and a place for a dog to go.
