About Oakley

Dutch Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Oakley is a 1 %BD year old shepherd, coonhound mix that weighs approximately 45lbs. Oakley was rescued from a rural high kill shelter, where he landed himself after his owner was deployed overseas and his relatives no longer wanted to care for Oakley. His foster mom happened to be there to meet another dog, when she walked by Oakley's kennel where he sat quietly with so much sadness in his eyes. Knowing this shelter was in code red status his foster mom didn't hesitate and swept him up to give him a new chance at better life. Oakley is an amazing pup, with a unique personality. Oakley is a pretty chill guy, who loves to snuggle up with his humans, but also has a playful side to him. Oakley does have some herding instincts, especially while playing, so we do recommend a home with older children. Oakley will also require a fenced in yard as he loves to run and he is extremely fast. He enjoys playing fetch, and loves taking out all of his toys, even if he isn't playing with them, he likes to know exactly where he left them and if you put them away, he is right behind you taking them out again. Oakley also thinks the vacuum is out to get him or maybe even a farm animal. While you are trying to clean, he is trying to herd it while making bearlike noises. Don't fear it just may take a few extra minutes to get those floors cleaned. Oakley, also isn't a fan of fly swatters, if he sees one in his presence, he will quietly sneak off to go and hide out in another room while he stares at a wall. His foster mom did a DNA test on him because she was sure he had some greyhound in him and low and behold he was mostly Dutch Shepherd, with 3 different Coonhounds (bluetick, redbone, & treeing walker) with a little bit of lab mixed in. Oakley, is up to date of vaccines, neutered, housetrained, crate trained, he knows basic commands, does well on the leash, and enjoys taking car rides as your 'co-pilot'. Oakley gets along with other dogs both big and small, but he is not big fan of cats.
