About Niko & Brookie

Bonded Chihuahuas, A1497854, 'Niko' & A2198178, 'Brookie' at West Valley Shelter, In Foster Care. Brookie and Niko are a sweet, bonded pair who were dumped at the shelter together. Thankfully, there are being fostered by one of the staff and are not being subjected to the stress of being a senior in the shelter. But they do need a rescue, and they do need to stay together. Brookie is a spayed female, believed to be about 10 years of age. At 16.9 pounds, she is a chunky monkey! Her body condition score (BCS) is 7, and the ideal BCS is 5. Brookie has heavy tartar and overgrowth of her gums on the left upper side. She has multiple discolored growths on her ventral abdomen. They also feel she has a heart murmur. Niko is a neutered male, believe to be about 12 years of age. Niko weighs 13 pounds. His body condition score is 8. Niko has a luxated patella on his right hind leg. Both dogs are coughing. At first, it was suspected they have upper respiratory tract infections. Although not diagnosed, I suspect they BOTH have heart murmurs. Our foster reports that they are great with other dogs in the home and even respectful of cats in the home. Let's make some magic happen for these seniors, so that they do not spend one single night in the shelter and not one single night away from each other!!
