I'm writing with a very heavy and emotional heart to ask for help rehoming or surrendering my beloved dog, Rollie. This has been one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to face-not only for me, but for my 13-year-old daughter who has grown up with him by her side every single day. Rollie is a small Maltese/Chihuahua mix, weighing about 7-10 pounds. He was born on September 25, 2012, and has been with our family ever since he was a puppy. For over 13 years, he has brought nothing but love, companionship, and joy into our lives. He's been my daughter's best friend since she was just 9 months old. To her, he's more than a pet-he's family. He has always been sweet and gentle. He's never bitten anyone and has lived harmoniously with both cats and dogs his whole life-he actually thinks he's one of the cats. He's also been raised around children and has always been incredibly patient and affectionate. Sadly, due to life changes, I'm no longer able to care for him the way he deserves. I recently moved into an apartment that has no balcony or patio, and I now live alone and work full time. Before, I had the support of my adult children who were home to help care for him while I worked. Now, with no one else around during the day and so little time, I know he's not getting the attention, exercise, or care he needs. Rollie was neutered in December 2019 at the Sonoma County Humane Society, where he also had surgery in January 2020 to remove a growth from under his chin. He was fully vaccinated at that time as well. Recently, I've noticed he's started barking more than usual, and I suspect he may be starting to lose his vision. Despite this, he remains the same loving, loyal little soul he has always been. This decision is heartbreaking. He has been such a constant presence in our lives, but I know in my heart that it's time to put his needs above my own emotions. He deserves a peaceful, comfortable home where someone can give him the love, time, and attention he needs in his senior years. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for everything you do to help animals like Rollie. I'm happy to provide any further information you might need.
