About Mikey

MIKEY is a sweet 10-year-old, 18 pound Shih Tzu who was surrendered due to his former owner's declining health. He is a happy, loving little guy who would love a quiet home with someone who will adore his sweet nature. MIKEY is an absolute gem of a companion. He wants nothing more than to be close to his person, he's a true velcro pup and total cuddle bug. He loves lounging on the couch, soaking up affection and belly rubs. MIKEY sleeps soundly through the night in the big bed. MIKEY is great with people of all ages and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He doesn't require another dog in the home though, he'll happily bond with his human and be their devoted shadow. We have not had him around cats and think he would be fine with older kids. MIKEY is fully house trained, though he may initially mark in a new environment. He walks nicely on a leash, enjoys car rides, and is always up for a snack. He has recently discovered the joy of toys and loves a gentle game of tug with his foster brother. His foster family lovingly calls MIKEY 'The Great White Hunter' because of his hilarious and enthusiastic lizard-chasing hobby. While a fenced yard isn't required, he'd definitely enjoy one to indulge in his favorite outdoor activity. Special Note- Mikey has a previous injury to his back leg, a CCL tear. He's healing well and taking daily Meloxicam, but he still favors the leg and needs a calm environment where he won't overdo it. He plays in short bursts and then takes a break when the leg starts to bother him. His foster also uses a brace when needed. MIKEY has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month pro heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. We adopt to homes within a 1-6 hour drive to Pensacola. Puppies and dogs with pending vet appointments, and some dogs with behavioral or medical issues are only adoptable locally.
