About Scout

FOSTER or ADOPTER Meet Scout! This sweet and smart dog is on the lookout for a loving home, something he's never had. Gifted with a strong bonding gene, Scout's top priority is being a loyal companion to a human, a job in which he excels. He will turn to you for love and comfort and believes there's no such thing as enough snuggle time. Scout is approximately 1-2 years old, weighs about 50 pounds, and currently lives in New Hartford, CT. His distinctive look comes from a mix of unknown breeds, but more importantly he ranks high on the cute scale. He's neutered and up-to-date on shots. Scout was rescued from the euthanasia list at a NYC shelter and since February, he has been in a foster home. The foster has gotten to know his personality, interests, and needs. She has also hired a trainer to work on insecurity issues that are rooted in a lonely and disruptive early life. Now that he's thriving, it's time for adoption! In Scout's dream home, he will be an only pet or have just one compatible dog sibling. As far as his social skills, he gets along with most dogs, especially after meeting new friends with proper introductions. He has not been tested with cats. Scout prefers one person, or two, who will accept him for who he is. He needs someone with dog experience to ensure he doesn't become the 'boss' of the house. Otherwise he will turn to guarding his favorite person and objects he thinks are his alone. These behaviors are manageable though we recommend working with a trainer to help Scout build confidence. His current trainer has excellent suggestions to do so. Besides being a sidekick, he loves playing outdoors, chewing bones, and going on car rides. Scout doesn't require much to be happy, but he is still nervous around new things and new people. Please give Scout his first and final home.
