Courtesy Posting: URGENT! LONG BEACH (NR LOS ANGELES), CA (S CAL)- BEAUTIFUL, FRIENDLY, YOUNG 38 LB FEMALE BRINDLE CHOW X 'KIKI' IN NEED OF A LOVING, NEW HOME, IDEALLY W/ BREED EXPERIENCE & NO OTHER DOGS OR SMALL DOGS, CATS MAY BE OKAY, has done well with cats per owner. Please help us find a chow savvy, forever home for stunning Kiki, an approximate 2 year old petite girl who is 71 percent chow per her DNA. She was adopted almost a year ago from the Long Beach shelter after being tossed from a car and living on the streets for weeks before being caught. She was then adopted by a home with a small female dog. Unfortunately, Kiki has recently started to attack her companion dog. She also reacted negatively to a small dog at the park, so the owner feels she is best as only dog, but can co exist with cats. The owner does not want to bring her to the shelter and reached out to us to help find a new home asap. The owner has provided further details as follows: 'Kiki is very friendly with adults. She loves hanging out at dinner parties and sitting on the patio in the evening with her family - she does have boundaries and will let people know when she doesn't want affection, but she won't hurt an adult that tries to ruffle her mane when she's not feeling it. She'll just remove herself from the situation. Kiki gets nervous around young children - she'll stand at a distance and bark at them, but doesn't show aggression. Kiki has never shown aggression toward humans and is protective of her home, barking at unfamiliar people but not acting aggressively once they enter. She gets along well with cats-she may chase if they run, but she does not harm them and often coexists peacefully.- she'll chase a cat if it runs, but she won't hurt it. And if the cat doesn't react Kiki will sniff it and then leave it alone. She might do a play-bow to the cat and bark at little to try to get it to play, but that's all. Kiki needs to be a solo dog - she's recently started showing aggression towards her companion whom to date she's absolutely loved. Kiki will also go after other dogs and if the dog is smaller than her, she will try to attack it. She will also show aggression towards larger dogs (it seems like a dominance/bullying thing) but if the other dog is bigger or more aggressive than her she backs down and puts her little curly tail between her legs. Kiki is 100% potty trained. She does her business outside, but I don't know about using potty pads. Kiki lives indoors, but I usually have the back patio door leading the backyard open so she can hang out in the sun or guard the backyard from the patio steps. My objective is to find a home that appreciates the Chow spirit and loyalty, and wants a low key companion that is super content to hang out by herself and nap or oversee her domain and go on a few walks a day. ' Kiki was already spayed and vaccinated by the shelter. If you are breed savvy and are interested in meeting and adopting Kiki in person, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist with her placement. Sorry, we do not do transport to private homes unless a rescue is involved due to risks of a home or dog not working out for any reason. All adopters will be asked for a home check (which may be virtual), an application, a vet reference, proof of prior or current chows, and a signed adoption contract.
