About Ollie

Adoption Fee: $500.00
Maltese
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

*LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY* OLLIE is a teeny little guy with a big personality. This 3.5-year-old, 5.2-pound Maltese was surrendered due to changes in his owner's work schedule, and he's now on the lookout for a very special forever home. OLLIE is absolutely precious, and a bit spicy, according to his foster mom (who has a soft spot for dogs with attitude). He's affectionate and loyal, loves giving kisses, and enjoys being snuggled- on his own terms. If you push past his comfort zone with cuddles or sneak a kiss to the back of his head that he hasn't initiated, he'll growl and grumble to let you know he's not having it. He's got opinions, and he's not shy about expressing them! He's going to have to have an owner that understands he has some issues that have to be worked with. OLLIE bonds quickly and deeply with his person and wants nothing more than to be by your side or preferably in your lap. Sleeping in the bed at night is a must. If you try to make him sleep elsewhere, he'll bark to let you know exactly how he feels about that. He is the kind of dog who would love to go everywhere with his person and is not going to be happy spending time alone. OLLIE is a Maltese and needs regular upkeep, but grooming is not his favorite thing. In fact, he hates it. Nail trims and face grooming are especially tough for him, and he has bitten his foster mom while being groomed. We believe that with time, routine, and the right professional groomer, he could improve, but it's important to understand that this is an ongoing challenge. OLLIE is not crazy about other dogs, but might tolerate a calm, small female companion. He is not a good fit for a home with children of any age, and that is non-negotiable. We do not know how he would be with cats. OLLIE is working on potty training. He does know to go outside but may still mark indoors occasionally. A safe, structured potty routine will be needed. He uses a dog door inconsistently and due to his tiny size, he should be closely supervised while outside. A fenced yard is not required since he's not particularly interested in playing outdoors and pretty much only wants to be where his person is. Bonus info? He loves to play ball and has a weakness for Cheez-Its! OLLIE has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. He is ready for a fresh start-with a person who understands that the best dogs sometimes come with a little edge!
